How balanced is your closet? Wardrobe categories and how to divide them.
The old adage goes there’s a time and place for everything. That definitely applies to the clothes you wear. Making sure you have clothes for every occasion is essential.
Every woman’s wardrobe should have four types of attire: business wear, casual/leisure wear, formal wear, and after five wear. Your lifestyle will determine how much you need of each type of clothing. On average, 5% of our wardrobe should be formal, 5% for after five events, 30% for casual and leisure occasions, and 60% should be allocated for work attire.
Just as you would not typically wear a heavy winter coat on a 90 degree summer day, neither should you wear after five wear to church. I have seen women attempt to intermingle clothing items for occasions that end up being inappropriate.
Usually, how and where we spend our time is reflected in our wardrobe. Many young professionals live for the weekend. So fun casual clothing may tend to overwhelm our closets. Just like in life, balance is important. Our wardrobes should be able to accommodate any and all occasions. Take inventory of your closet. Is it balanced?
